What is ECTN?
An ECTN (Electronic Cargo Tracking Note) Certificate is a mandatory document required by certain African countries for the import of goods. This certificate provides information about the cargo, its origin, destination, and details about the shipper and consignee. Essentially, the ECTN facilitates cargo tracking, ensuring that all imports are documented, and assists customs authorities in anticipating cargo arrival, improving logistical planning, and collecting accurate import duties.
Official Notice Regarding The ECTN From The Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning (MOFEP)
- Each Bill of Lading must be covered by one ECTN/SPN.
- Shipping lines must insert the unique ECTN/SPN number in the Bil of Lading and Cargo Manifest.
- Any cargo without a valid ECTN/SPN will not be cleared through the local Customs until clearance of fines and presentation of a valid ECTN/SPN is done.
